Coins are a good way of keeping score, even if you can't use them at the moment. Do you really want to play games and get no reward what-so-ever? Non-members can buy two puffles, you'll need coins for that and even though someone isn't a member when they are earning their coins, if they become a member they've have loads of money to spend!
